Springboard marks the completion of its main Decent Homes programme with family in Tower Hamlets.

A resident in Campbell Road, Tower Hamlets, was presented this week with a bouquet of flowers by Springboard Housing Association, part of Genesis Housing Group, to mark Springboard’s completion of its main Decent Homes programmes.

The Decent Homes Standard was set by the Government in 2001, and every social housing landlord is required to bring all of its properties up to meet the Standard by the end of 2009. After spending more than £24m on improving its homes since the Standard was introduced, Springboard has completed its main programme well in advance of the Government deadline.

Mr and Mrs Mason moved into the ten-bedroom property with their family in February 1983. As foster carers for 35 years, the couple provide respite care for children with special needs before they join their new families. They have two birth children, five grandchildren and have adopted 13 children over the years.

During the summer the couple had a full kitchen replacement using a Greenwich Walnut design supplied by Howden’s Joinery, including a complete rewire of the electrics. In addition, two first floor WC’s were refurbished, and improvements to both the first floor shower room and the bathroom were carried out.

Mrs Pamela Mason said “The improvements and refurbishment to of our house will make a big difference to our ability to carry on our work in fostering. I am delighted with how it looks since the refurbishment. The guys who did the work were just great and I cannot thank them enough for their patience, arriving on time every day, and leaving the house clean and safe every evening. Thank you again.”

Harton Bailey, Interim Managing Director at Springboard, said “We at Springboard are very pleased to have completed the initial part of our Decent Homes Programme. We are committed to maintaining our properties to this standard in the future and have been able to achieve this through the financial benefit of joining the Genesis Housing Group.”
