Camden Councillor leads tour of Genesis' homes in Camden

On Thursday 22 October, Genesis Housing Group held a tour of its newly-completed development at St Pancras Way in Camden. Prospective residents of the 100% affordable scheme, and Cllr Chris Naylor, attended the event.

Situated overlooking the Grand Union Canal, and a stone's throw from one of the most vibrant areas in the capital, this St Pancras way development offers a great example of affordable, high quality housing.

The scheme consists of 72 homes, with 27 for social rent and 45 available for shared ownership. Nearly half the homes available for social rent have over three bedrooms, providing much-needed family accommodation in the area.

In addition, the development has an Eco Homes rating of 'very good'. It is also estimated that 50% of the total annual energy requirement will be generated from solar panels on the roofs. There is also the use of water butts to conserve water and low energy lightbulbs in communal areas.

Samantha McGeoghan, who is moving into a social rented apartment with her daughter Elsie, attended the event and said "I'm really looking forward to moving in. I have been looking for somewhere for six months and this is the best property I have seen. I have always lived in this area and it's great to live by the canal".

Councillor Chris Naylor, Executive Member for Homes and Housing Strategy, Camden Council, said: "I'm delighted that the first families are now beginning to move in and that the St Pancras Way development is complete. This development will bring huge benefits for local people in Camden - providing high quality, affordable housing, which achieves top marks for sustainability. Camden is committed to working with registered social landlords to make sure that this type of housing is available for the people who need it."
