Floating support

Springboard operates a floating support service in the areas of Redbridge, Newham,
East Herts , (inc. Broxbourne and Hertfordshire), Colchester, Chelmsford and Uttlesford.

What is a floating support service?

This is a service which offers you support if you need some help in managing your tenancy, helping you to stay in your home and the local community. Our floating support service generally involves a worker visiting you at home to offer practical and emotional support.

What can the scheme help me with?

Our Floating Support Workers can help you to:

  • Budget your income and work out what you can spend
  • Claim benefits
  • Keep your tenancy in good order
  • Deal with disputes with neighbours
  • Liaise with other agencies
  • Take up social/educational and training opportunities
  • Develop daily living skills
  • Be as independent as possible in your home

Things that our Floating Support Workers will not do include:

  • Carrying out any nursing duties
  • Formal counselling
  • Assisting with personal hygiene, bathing etc
  • Cleaning

Who can apply?

  • People aged 16 - 65 years old
  • People living alone or with children or with a partner or adult who has mental health problems, learning disabilities or difficulties and who is unable to provide support
  • Individuals who have no other means of support
  • Those who have a history of mental illness and have low care needs
  • Applicants must receive or be entitled to housing benefit in order to meet the rent, or have the means to pay the full rent from their own resources

How much will this service cost?

Between £20 - £60 per hour however funding is available for those on Housing Benefit through Supporting People. In the areas listed above we operate under Supporting People contracts and no cost is levied to those on benefits. It is also possible for a customer to buy into the service themselves; this would be through a self-referral.

How can I apply?

To find out if you qualify for floating support or to discuss a referral, please approach your local Social Services team. All of the referrals that we receive are assessed.

What will happen then?

When we receive a referral we will carry out an assessment to see if we can help. We will then decide if we can offer you a place on the scheme.

The Floating Support Worker will make appointments with you to offer you help and advice. Then when you are able to manage your tenancy without help, we will end the service and your Housing Officer will offer normal advice and assistance as and when required.
